Antique Engraving Of A Donkey After Rosa Bonheur. Dated 1880.

A rare and superb mixed method engraving portrait of a donkey by W. H. Simmons after the painting 'Homer, A Humble Servant' by Rosa Bonheur. Rosa Bonheur was one of the most renowned and accomplished animal painters of the 19th century. She commissioned W. H. Simmons to execute this excellent engraving of her painting which she painted in 1878. The engraving was published by L. H. Lefevre, 1 King St, St. James, London in 1881. This is an artist's proof before letters, published on India paper and signed in the margin by both artist and engraver. It has never been framed, is in pristine condition and has full margins, bearing the Print Sellers Association blind-stamp lower left. It is mounted ready for framing. The image size is approx. 18 inches by 15 inches. Mounted size 31.5 inches by 26.5 inches approx. This item is antique. The date of manufacture has been declared as 1880.
